PREFACE
This document highlights the process and approaches for implementation of the Sustainable Community Development Programme (SCDP). The SCDP aims to promote sustainable development at the grassroots level through capacity building of local communities.
SCDP was designed as a pilot and experimental project to demonstrate community-based sustainable human development. The activities have been successfully implemented in three districts- Surkhet, Kailah and Dang. SCDP's processes and approaches have demonstrated that communities have their own capacities to achieve social, economic and environmental sustainability. The involvement of local governments such as the District Development Committees and the Village Development Committees as stakeholders have been a major thrust to achieve sustainability.
Adaptation and replication of the SCDP model for sustainable development beyond the Programme district is vital. This document is thus prepared to provide guidelines for other agencies to adapt the SCDP model of sustainable development for implementation of similar activities in Nepal and abroad.
The stakeholders of the SCDP, EC members, DDC chairpersons, VDC chairpersons, SDC members, CBOs, NGO/SDF partners involved in the programe districts deserve deep appreciation for their continued involvement and support.
