Learning from the SCDP Implementation

Former District Development Committee Chairperson
Mr. Jiwan Bahadur Shahi sharing district development activities with the representatives of international development agencies in Simikot, Humla

  • Involvement of all stakeholders including grassroots level representation in planning process can result in an increased level of realisation of policies at the macro level. Such involvement has ensured inclusion and recognition of best practices of grassroots level in the national policies such as 10th Plan. Regional and national level dialogues have been proved as the strong instrument to influence the formulation of sustainable development policies and strategies.

  • The attachment of Supporting Organisation to the DDC has remarkably influenced on DDC and VDC level policy making process that helped making the Programme more collaborative, co-ordinated and much more transparent. A genuine feeling of shared ownership has been developed due to the recognition and internalisation of Supporting organisations by the DDCs that also caused enhanced collaboration among SCDP, line agencies and other development partners. Sharing of SCDP information in different forums and meetings worked for maintaining transparency that opened the door to further participation.

  • Provision of credit facilities through SDFF has been an effective strategy to support rural poor to come out from viscous cycle of poverty. SDFF has proved that it has helped increasing access of poor, depressed and deprived communities to loan. Apparently, to enhance the capacities of rural poor in sustenance of such benefits generated from SDFF, providing further enterprise development and management skills is a must so that they can continue their economic development initiatives.

  • Advocacy of SCDP approaches and processes would be effective to promote sustainable development in all the districts.
